CAUSTIC EMINENCE
Another Day, Another Dollar
Cling Recordings
1996

For those youth group punk rawk kids whose exposure to punk in the 1990s was mostly found on Tooth & Nail Records, chances are they’ve never came across punk and hardcore punk without having to search outside of the comfort zone of the local Christian bookstore. No shade, just pointing out facts, here. Calm down.

Caustic Eminence is one of those under-the-radar of normie kids, from the 1990s; they hailed from…I don’t know. According to Discogs, they have two cassette-only releases, and this 7-inch red vinyl EP we’re taking a look at, Another Day, Another Dollar.

Released on Cling Recordings in… okay, I’m putting down 1996 on here, because that was when it was on the New Releases display at the obscure record shop in Omaha I snagged this at; Discogs has listed “????” as the year of release, though. Seriously, these guys are not very forthcoming with personal info, here. Regardless, let’s break out my record player, and give this another listen, shall we?

  • “Razorblades & Shotgun Shells” Driving, raw hardcore punk, furious and speedy…
  • “Corporate Christianity” Pretty good bass run opening this up; driving, furious and angry; fist-in-the-air anthemic, good for teh moshin’…
  • “Always There For Me” Furious hook, driving with obnoxious vocals, hardcore punk blast…
  • “Gimme A Beer” Raw, speedy, and over in under a minute; reminds me of Suicidal Tendencies’ debut album, here…
  • “New Deal” Raw driving speedy with a decent hook…

Overall: All things considered, Another Day, Another Dollar is a decent blast of street punk that wasn’t exactly in the vogue with the kids back then. It’s raw, it’s fast and full of unbridled energy. I kinda wonder what the guys in the band are up to now, if they’re still flying the punk flag, or if they’ve assimilated into regular “sell-out” society. Either way, collector’s item.
